When it comes to China-North Korea relations, it’s normally the Chinese doing the whinging about their troublesome neighbours to the south, what with their nuclear bomb testing and declarations of war.
According to a recent piece in the SCMP however, Chinese tourists to the DPRK aren’t exactly impressing their North Korean hosts. For example, Simon Cockerell of Koryo Tours says tourists from China often throw sweets at North Korean children “like they’re feeding ducks”.
In a fantastic statement of the obvious, Cockerell goes on to say: “The North Koreans think that’s undignified and offensive.”
Chinese tourists have also, on occasion, rushed onto a stage during a school performance to pick up a bewildered North Korean child and pose with them for photos.
You can almost hear Wang Yang rolling his eyes.
