We’re no strangers to the idea that it’s currently hot-as-all-hell in China right now, but two officials in Henan have taken it to a new level. A woman was hit by their government car on Monday, and the two men stayed inside “due to hot weather,” and soon sparked public outrage.
The officials work for—of course—the Jiyuan city’s Justice Bureau, and were mobbed by locals after refusing to get out of the car, as South China Morning Post reports:
“The two senior officials just sat in the car laughing and talking as if nothing had happened and because they were afraid of the heat, they refused to get out of the car and assist,” another witness told the Dahe Daily.
A crowd of 40 to 50 bystanders reportedly gathered at the scene and angrily urged the two officials sitting in the back seat of the car to get out and help. […]
After a half-hour standoff with the irate bystanders, one of the officials – a middle-aged man wearing a white dress shirt – got out of the car and ran from the scene, according to witnesses.
Class act. The officials’ driver (image above) helped the woman and called an ambulance.
