A video uploaded on Sina claiming to show a public execution has been viewed 2.3 million times since Monday, and has yet to be censored by authorities. The clip, filmed by onlookers standing atop a hill, shows policemen take a placard-wearing man from a van, walk him into a field, and unceremoniously shoot him in the back of the head. Very little else about the video is known.
The clip is still quite mysterious; there is no information about the accused man, his charges, or even any real location data. Business Insider reports:
The uploader says it was filmed in November 2012, and the WSJ’s China Real Time blog says that the people in the village appear to speak a dialect found in Guizhou province. The crowd do not seem shocked or upset by what they see.
Updates will, hopefully, be forthcoming.
