Apple has been having some trouble in China lately. Amid headlines about a falling market share, lower sales, and homicidal iPhones, Apple is working hard to reverse it fortunes. Their answer? A cheaper iPhone that can compete with low-cost Android devices.
Dubbed the iPhone 5C, the new iPhone will be priced below the standard iPhone and will be aimed at consumers in rapidly growing (but budget conscious) developing markets.
Jimmy Lin, former Mandopop star and current race car driver, has apparently gotten his hands on one and has posted pictures on Weibo for all the world to see. Lin has prior experience with leaking Apple news, he posted similar photos of the iPhone 5 before its official release. Which begs the question (if the 5C he’s showing off is real), why does anyone trust Jimmy Lin with new devices?
Perhaps the leak is an intentional, if out of character, PR-stunt by Apple. The news comes on the heels of a possible Apple/China Mobile deal that would bring a 4G-capable device to China’s largest telco.
