A Saudi Arabian student has been sentenced to five years in prison for attempted rape, Xinhua reports.
The 22 year old man, who was studying Chinese at an unnamed university in Changsha, Hunan province, attempted to rape a 38 year old woman in a square in the city on the morning of April 4.
Alsubaie Bader Fahad had previously sexually assaulted the woman in a branch of KFC, after she fled he followed her into the square where he tried to rape her. Police arrested Fahad after a passerby intervened to stop the attack.
According to the Shanghai Daily, Fahad argued that “no assault took place as the woman did not cry out for help.”
Fahad will be deported following completion of his jail term, Furong District People’s Court said.
