Aerosmith have officially cancelled their shows in Shanghai and Taipei. The reason cited on their website is that the ‘local promoter [was] unable to meet contractual obligations.’
The promoters themselves, ShiningOn Culture, have so far refused to officially confirm that the shows have been cancelled (but they’ll be a bit difficult to put on without the band).
Sun Mengjin, a famous music critic, has voiced his anger concerning what he sees as cowardly PR posturing of ShiningOn Culture: “Do you really consider fans who came from other parts of China? They have booked flights and hotels. Please also think for fans’ interests, not just yours.”
The main problem? Perhaps selling tickets for as much as 2,680 yuan at a 25,000 seater venue.
Some of the band members expressed their solemn disappointment with this unfortunate turn of events. Perry commented that they’ve “looked forward to this for a lifetime”, Hamilton regrets being unable to “meet our fans there” and Kramer opines that “the circumstances were beyond our control.”
On a slightly less mournful note, Tyler looks forward to, “one day returning and giving them a show they deserve”. We’re gonna hold you to that, Tyler.
Moving onto the returns policies. If you’ve bought tickets to their show, get them refunded on August 21 at Hongkou Stadium between 10:00-22:00. Alternatively, get them refunded from Room 2609, 200 Ninghai Dong Lu (near Zhejiang Nan Lu) between 10:00-18:00 (Except for August 21). Both Smart Ticket and 247Tickets will also refund purchases made through them.
