If you ignore the whole power-abusing, murder-assisting, wildly-corrupt side of Bo Xilai, he was actually quite a popular politician. A group of supporters in Shandong jumped at the chance to ignore mountains of negative data, and are rallying in support of the beloved “comrade Bo.”
The protesters set themselves up near the courthouse where Bo will be tried tomorrow, and have taken advantage of the fact that every journalist in the country is hoping to be there too. The South China Morning Post reports:
Police tried to move the small crowd of demonstrators away from the street as dozens of journalists camped out in front of the main gate of the courthouse.
The protesters, who came from all over the country, held signs that said: “We’re watching the Bo trial to see if it’s fair and just.”
“When comrade Bo Xilai was put under house arrest, it was a violation of the party charter and when he was handed over to the justice system it was a violation of the constitution,” said a protester from Chongqing surnamed Li.
“This trial is illegal. We don’t believe in any outcome of this trial.”
Well, if their main concern is that Bo’s trial will be rigged, above the law, and unfair, then perhaps they don’t have their heads that far into the sand.
