A young mother and her 9 month old baby lived at a KFC outlet in Beijing for two months, Shanghai Daily reports.
The woman, Xiaoshan (pseudonym), said she chose the KFC because it was open 24 hours a day and staff did not ask her to leave. An anonymous member of staff confirmed to the paper that they did not “drive away customers who stay here the whole night”.
Xiaoshan reportedly earns 30 to 40 yuan a night selling things as a street vendor, her earnings are supplemented by donations from diners at the restaurant.
Since the original report, Xiaoshan said that “several people came to see me, and gave me money or bought us something, I don’t know what to say, I’m very grateful to everyone.”
Told of his daughter’s current situation, Xiaoshan’s adoptive father burst into tears, according to the Beijing Youth Daily. Her parents had cut off relations with her because she had a child outside of marriage.
