Before everyone moved on to discussing affairs and hot air balloons, one of the most asked questions about Bo Xilai’s trial was: where the hell did they get the two giants standing guard over him?
Despite being 185cm (6ft 1in) tall himself, Bo looked diminutive in comparison to the two police officers flanking him throughout proceedings. The average height for Chinese men is 176cm (5ft 8in) so it’s unlikely that Bo just happened to end up with two cops both several inches taller than him.
Some Chinese netizens allege that the Jinan authorities went further than just finding the tallest cops they could, and actually hired an ex-basketball player to pose as a guard.
The above image is being circulated online comparing photos of Gong Xiaobin, a former CBA player who happens to live in, you guessed it, Jinan. While this is obviously just speculation, Gong does bear a striking resemblance to Bo’s sentinel and, at 202cm (6ft 6in) tall is the right height as well.
