A university student from Lianyungang, Jiangsu province recently sued his sick father for being unable to pay for his tuition fees and living costs, Modern Express reports.
According to the report, Xiao Zhu attends an unspecified university in Nanjing. When his father fell ill, Xiao Zhu’s mother was left as the sole breadwinner. Due to the family’s limited earning capabilities, and his father’s medical bills, Xiao Zhu was told by his parents that they would no longer be able to afford his tuition fees, they suggested he find a part-time job to raise the money himself.
Instead, Xiao Zhu filed suit against his father with the Lainyun District People’s Court, arguing that the court should compel the man to pay for three years’ tuition and living expenses.
Though his suit was unsuccessful, the story does have a happy ending. Police officers involved in the case took pity on the family and reportedly not only paid for Xiao Zhu’s tuition fees but also donated 2,000 yuan to cover his father’s medical costs.
