Justin Lee, Taiwanese playboy and socialite, was convicted last January of drugging and raping 24 women, and filming the entire grotesque process. The original charges involved more than 60 women, including his father’s girlfriend. Eventually all but 24 of the cases were dropped, but that was still enough to send Lee to jail for 22 years and 4 months.
Lee, 28, was found with more than 25GB worth of videos of his sexual exploits, nearly all of which were recorded non-consensually. The Straits Times reports:
Lee, 28, was also ordered by the Taipei District Court to pay NT$14.25 million (S$611,587) to 12 of his victims, who had sued him for a total of NT$75 million in damages. […]
The one-time playboy could have been jailed for up to 30 years on 45 counts of rape, aggravated rape, and violation of privacy.
While 22 years is certainly no walk in the park, please keep in mind that Taiwan recently sentenced a woman to nearly 300 years in prison for having consensual sex outside of marriage. Lee receives a few hundred years less, for charges that include aggravated rape and gross violations of privacy. What the hell are you doing, Taiwan?
