Xiao Feng, a second-year university student in Guangzhou, was murdered by a ‘beautiful girl’ he met on the instant-messaging app Momo, who turned out to be a ‘psychopathic man’ surnamed Zhou. Xiao unknowingly flirted with Zhou for four days before deciding to meet up, at which point Zhou beat him over the head with a metal object and stabbed him to death.
Early reports seem as though this was a thrill killing by Zhou. According to The Nanfang:
It turns out that, although they didn’t know each other, the two men went to the same college.
Currently in police custody in Huadu District, Zhou told interrogators that he just wanted to know what it felt like to murder somebody. He joined Momo on July 14 and created a fake profile as a beautiful girl with the intent of murdering a man he lured. Psychiatrists have done a series of tests on him and found no suggestion of mental illness.
Psychiatrists should probably keep looking, and those searching for hookups on Momo would best bring something stronger than a condom for protection.
