A woman threatened to jump off the roof of the plastic surgery clinic where she had had her breast implants removed due to medical complications, Jiefang Daily reports.
The woman stood on the edge of the roof of Fuhua Medical Beauty Hospital for half an hour after unsuccessfully arguing for compensation from the clinic. She shook off security before making her way to the roof where she attracted the attention of passersby.
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time this year that a Chinese woman has publicly threatened to commit suicide after plastic surgery gone wrong. In June, a woman stood atop a Beijing restaurant rooftop for several hours due to failed leg and nose surgeries.
These women’s surgeries are part of China’s burgeoning plastic surgery industry. Many young people, like this college student who had her breasts enlarged, believe (possibly correctly) that such procedures are necessary to compete in the competitive jobs market. Global Times reports that cosmetic surgeons aggressively target students preparing for job interviews with summer sales, with discounts of up to 65 percent.
Despite such fantastic discounts, readers are warned; for every legal operator, there are three to four unlicensed and illegal plastic surgery clinics.
