There’s a ton of events happening over this weekend, featuring a couple of international bands on a China Tour, along with some great local acts.
Split Works GETME! Showcase @ The Shelter
Split Works hosts a whole bunch of DJ/producers from East London label GETME!, and also features local artist Faded Ghost (ChaCha), who will open the show. The Split Works’ homepage says Friday’s show is lined up till 4:00am, so it’ll be a contest of who is the last one standing!

EF @ Mao Livehouse
Swedish act EF take the stage at Mao Livehouse, reaching the end of their two-week China Tour. They’re often compared to bands like Sigur Ros (trippy) and Godspeed You! Black Emperor (recently came through Shanghai). The post-rock/indie band’s latest album Ceremonies is available for streaming on their Soundcloud. Opening for them is 21 Grams, a Shanghai instrumental post-rock band. Tickets on Taobao.

If They Won’t Come…We’ll Do It @ Live Bar
Right, that was a poor translation of the original poster on the Live Bar Douban, originally titled “他们不来我们来” in regards to Aerosmith’s non-concert. The big time rockers cancelled their Shanghai show, so local bands will take the stage – featuring local cover band Iron Virgins, “Hong Zha Ji” (who will do Aerosmith covers with Iron Virgins’ vocalist); and Joker. Last time I saw Iron Virgins, one member was missing a shirt, another was barefoot on stage.
35RMB (includes one beer) // 21:00-23:30 // 1st Floor, 800 Guoshun Dong Lu, near Shuangyang Lu, Yangpu District
Dynazty @ Yuyintang
When I saw their profile on Douban, first thought was “80’s hair metal” – they even spelled their name like it. Dynazty is another Swedish band on a China Tour and will be swinging by Yuyintang on Friday. After some research, my suspicions were confirmed: hair metal revived in today’s age – remember The Darkness? Similar, but minus the catsuit – should be entertaining nonetheless. Tickets on Taobao.

SUMMERSET Bund Beach Fest @ The Cool Docks
The all-day end-of-summer celebration at The Cool Docks with 10 DJs, including Shanghai’s own DJ Caution, DJ Heatwolves, DJ Clement Pony and more! Listen to music from Hip-Hop to Reggae to House. There will be a whole bunch of activities from volleyball and ping-pong tourneys to dance comps.

Matias Aguayo @ Mao Livehouse
Legendary Chilean DJ and producer Matias Aguayo spins at Mao Livehouse. What is he legendary for? Can’t be sure…but if you’re up for some “doof doof” music in the experimental techno and house field, join the rest of the crowd and party hardy on a Wednesday night. Tickets at 247.
