Pudong’s penis with a tumour / interstellar spacecraft / Oriental Pearl Tower is to undergo refurbishments during the National Day holiday, Shanghai Daily reports.
The tower is turning yellow and grey with stains following years of exposure. There are small cracks on the surface that also needs to be fixed. The primary purpose however is to return it to its former glory.
The renovation is expected for just over 7 months and will mainly cover the exterior below 254 meters. The Shanghai Construction Group has been tasked with the job.
Construction on the Pearl Tower began in 1991, it was the tallest structure in 2007 when it was surpassed by the (less interesting but also less ugly) Shanghai World Financial Centre, itself recently overtaken by the (borderline attractive) Shanghai Tower.
[Note: While I’m not the greatest fan of the Pearl Tower, shot by the right photographer it can actually look downright nice.]
