Developers in Shijie, Dongguan alarmed authorities by erecting two villas supported by a dozen worryingly thin-looking pillars on the roof of their three storey building.
Locals are worried that the “castle in the sky” might not safe because of the thin concrete columns supporting them.
Although the owner had the permission to build from Shijie’s urban planning department, the scale of the construction was inconsistent with the plans provided to the department, making the building illegal.
Construction on the “castle” began around two years ago, the building is a private residence of a Hong Kong businessman according to neighbours.
