Superstitious Shanghai residents may have been freaked out by the fact that Friday 13th saw rain and thunderstorms like the end of times was upon us. The storm was so severe that the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a red rainstorm alert, the first such in over four years.
Numerous major roads around the city were flooded, including Century Avenue in Pudong, which saw as much as 124 millimetres of precipitation. Metro service was also briefly disrupted.
