Sick of the constant stress of commercial air travel in China, why not buy your own plane from the comfort of your home? Taobao has starting listing aircraft for sale online, Xinhua reports.
Six planes are currently for sale, bidding on one — the training aircraft Jabiru J160C — started at one yuan, though it quickly rose to over one million yuan.
Bidders have to put down a deposit of 50,000 yuan for each plane, except the Jabiru J160C which needs a deposit of just 2,000 yuan.
“It is common to trade planes online overseas,” said a Taobao staff member on condition of anonymity. “As the largest e-commerce platform, Taobao hopes to promote private planes among the public.”
“We are testing waters of online plane trading,” he said.
The most expensive aircraft available is the Eurocopter EC120 Colibri, listed for 16.8 million yuan.
Even those fortunate enough to be able to afford to buy aircraft sight-unseen over the web, there are still several snags to the personal plane lifestyle: only 300 airports or landing areas are licensed for general aviation in the entire country.
