Peking University’s Cancer Hospital caused surprise and amusement online after it posted an advert on campus bulletin boards seeking the blood of female virgins, ECNS reports.
To promote the prevention of HPV infection, our group is working on studies of serum antibodies to HPV. We need 100 healthy female college students as blood donors.
Any applicant should meet the requirements of being a virgin, and aged between 18 and 24 years old.
Blood samples from virgins is used by researchers studying the human papillomavirus (HPV) as a control, since the infection risk for women who have never had sex is low.
The rational reasoning behind the advert hasn’t stopped it going viral on the Chinese web, with “virgin female blood” leading many to think of Elizabeth Báthory rather than Albert Sabin.
