A power failure on Metro Line 8 caused a one-hour delay between Shiguang Road and Yanji Middle Road stations on Monday, Shanghai Daily reports.
Just recently on Friday, Line 2 was suspended for a few hours after flood waters entered into the tunnel.
As a result, services between People’s Square and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum stations were stopped during the evening rush hour, forcing commuters to take to the traffic-packed roads.
More than eight million commuters use the metro daily and the recent failures have created uproar amongst people. Some of them suggested the designs of some of the station entrances on Line 2 are to blame for the flooding.
However the argument was refuted by “metrofans”, an online club of Metro users, who responded that it was impossible for rainwater to flow into the tunnel through the entrances along sidewalks.
Nevertheless the metrofans did mention that the subway operators should be more proactive in giving out detail regarding failures to avoid speculation.
