A 22 year old Nanjing woman has been sentenced to life in prison for intentional homicide, after she let her two young daughters starve to death in Nanjing city, Xinhua reports.
Le Yan left her daughters aged two and one alone in a room with the door and windows shut for several months.
On the day the children were found, Le was arrested while munching on a hamburger at a local eatery.
According to a medical examination, the two girls likely died of dehydration and starvation.
Le was born out of wedlock and was raised by her grandmother. At the age of 16 she ran away from home and reportedly became a drug addict.
The girls’ father was detained by the police in February for an unspecified drug-related crime but was later released.
