It figures that the province with one of the world’s most delicious and diverse cuisines is also home to some of the biggest eaters. A recent Baidu Survey found that Guangdong houses more big eaters than any other Chinese province or Chinese city, beating out Sichuan, Shanghai, and Beijing, WantChina reports:
Following in order of rank from Guangdong was Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang Beijing, Henan, Shanghai, Hebei, Sichuan and Liaoning, the newspaper said, citing the Jiangsu-based Modern Express.
On Baidu’s Q&A platform, there are 77 million items related to eating, accounting for one third of the total 230 million items. The Chinese people are no slouches when it comes to food.
“Eating in Guangdong” is a remark that all mainland Chinese recognize. There is a well-known joke: Guangdong people eat everything that can fly except planes, and everything that has four legs except a desk.
Though judging from some of the metals and other materials that have turned up in food, we’re not so sure anymore.
Some provinces were more enthralled than others about being listed among the top ten eaters. Chongqing was mad it didn’t make the list while Sichuan wanted off. Clearly not every Chinese province thinks shoving the most food in their face in China is something to aspire to, or perhaps Sichuan misinterpreted “biggest eaters,” as “the fattest people who eat food.”
