A lucky man in Zhejiang province was sitting on top of a 100 million yuan (US$16.3 million) jackpot for one whole week before he walked into a lottery outlet and realized he was the winner.
The man, who was a regular at a local lottery outlet in the city, walked into the store on September 23 and saw a poster congratulating the person who purchased the winning ticket from the booth.
“Who is the lucky guy?” the man asked.
“Could it be you?” the owner replied.
The man read the winning numbers on the board and realized, alas, it was. He cited a brush with danger in a traffic accident the week before as the reason for his stroke of luck, as goes a traditional Chinese belief.
The man donated 500,000 yuan to a foundation for helping teenagers and said he will continue to help more people and play the lottery in the future.
Maybe he could throw some bones to a fellow lottery aficionado who’s spent over six million yuan on lottery tickets and never won a thing.
