On Wednesday, a lack of buses and long traffic jams to the Jiuzhaigou Valley in Sichuan province resulted in many tourists being left stranded on the mountain.
According to the Southern Metro Daily, armed police were dispatched to the scene to keep order after traffic backed up for several kilometres, leaving many tourists stranded on the mountain for over three hours without a bus.
The Sichuan provincial tourism board blamed tourists for attempting to walk off the mountain, causing further traffic jams. Officials denied that the area had exceeded its capacity of 41,000 tourists.
After they were finally evacuated from the mountain, thousands of tourists mobbed ticket offices to request a refund:
