A former mall security guard stole jewellery worth over eight million yuan from his former employer by hiding in a crawl space between two floors, Sohu reports.
Chen Chengbin was laid off from his job as a security guard at the shopping mall in Xichang, Sichuan province in May. Following his dismissal, he began planning the heist, stocking the crawl space with food and water so that he could live there undetected for five days before and after the robbery.
On September 20, Chen stole jewellery worth 8.4 million yuan, but made the mistake of returning to the crawl space to hide with his loot while the coast cleared. Police apprehended the former security guard when he emerged from his hideout on September 23.
Chen admitted to the theft.
