At least they’re not pigs. On Saturday, over 10,000 plastic ducks were released into the Huangpu river as part of Shanghai’s first ever ‘Rubber Duck Race’, Southern Metro Daily reports.
The event was organised by the Super Brand Mall in support of the Special Olympics. Participants paid to “adopt” a duck (or pair of ducks), with prizes of 100,000, 50,000, and 10,000 yuan for first, second, and third place duck owners respectively.
The event raised over 500,000 yuan for the Special Olympics. The next Special Olympics Summer Games are due to take place in Los Angeles in July 2015.
