A Chinese tourist recently found a statue closely resembling the Japanese Manga character Doraemon amongst Qing dynasty-era antiques. After the shop owner confirmed the statue’s authenticity (i.e. he lied), the tourist uploaded a photo to weibo.
Chinese netizens have been highly skeptical;
One bluntly commented “Another fraud.”
While another wrote “It appears to be made of cement.”
One commenter seemed to think this was an innocent mistake “This might be accidentally mixed into…?”
However, most people sarcastically referenced the character’s time machine and time travelling adventures; “The time machine is real.”
The Shanghaiist agrees, this is probably the work of yet another enterprising shop owner, pawning off a fake product to an innocent, gullible tourist.
