A 17 year old teenager in Shanghai’s Minhang District is being held in connection to the murder of a Shanghai taxi driver, after he reportedly stabbed the driver during an argument surrounding the cab’s 40 yuan (6.5 USD) fare.
The 53 year old victim, a man surnamed Tang, was stabbed around 2 am on Monday near Jinglian Road, according to Shanghai Daily.
The teenager, surnamed He, is a migrant worker from Henan province. He told police that he took the taxi to meet a friend but found that he had no money. He called his friend for help, but the friend never answered.
An argument then erupted between He and Tang, after which He reportedly stabbed the driver in the neck.
“I had already told him that I had no money on me,” police quoted He saying. “I took out the knife just to frighten him, but he was angry and grabbed my hand. Then I stabbed him.”
“I regret it greatly, but what’s done is done,” he reportedly added.
