A described self-employed man in Shanghai who sorts through the city’s trash cans every morning is reaching out to the public to find the rightful owner of a ‘treasure box’ filled with brand new iPhones that he discovered earlier this week. If this description matches that of a carton full of iPhones you’ve recently misplaced, and God knows it happens to the best of us, please read below for further details.
The man, surnamed Zhang, told Xinmin Evening News reporters that he found the box outside of a building near the Shanghai Railway Station around 3 am on Sunday morning while making rounds in the street with his flashlight, according to Shanghai Daily.
He moved the box and found it was a carton wrapped in a ragged woven bag. The man said he sat there for more than an hour waiting for the owner but no one appeared. He said he opened the box in the hope of finding clues about the owner, only to discover several iPhones. The products were brand new with intact packages, he said.
Zhang said that he took the box home and returned to the scene, where he again waited for the owner, but the owner never came.
“I thought the goods are worth a lot. If the owner calls the police, the police should have come over quickly. I waited but nothing happened until it was daytime,” Zhang was quoted as saying in the newspaper.
Although the number and model were not specified, the phones shown in the newspaper are believed to be the new iPhone 5c, and in which case, the box could have gone unnoticed for a matter of days by passersby who mistook it for recyclable kitchenware before being found by Zhang.
