A 24-year-old man in Ningxia Province has been arrested after murdering his pregnant wife and six of her relatives, including a child and a toddler, making this the latest in a long line of recent deadly stabbings in China.
The man, Ma Yongdong, apparently had a “troubled relationship,” with his wife and in-laws, as South China Morning Post reports:
State media said the suspect on Monday quarrelled with his wife, Lan Xiaohong, who was six months’ pregnant. He found her later that day at her parents’ home in a village in Pengyang county and, armed with a knife, clashed with the relatives.
The victims were Lan, her parents, grandparents and two nieces – one of whom was 18 months old and the other four years. The suspect fled the scene.
Police in Ningxia, a mainly Muslim region in the northwest, had released photos of Ma and offered rewards of up to 100,000 yuan (HK$126,000) for information leading to his capture.
