A 16 year old girl in Jilin province on Monday was critically injured after her ex-boyfriend poured gasoline on her then lit a fire after she had broken up with him, Chinanews.com reports.
Police told reports that the suspect, 26 year old Xu Peng, was upset after the girl, surnamed Liu, broke up with him and refused to talk to him in person, according to Shanghai Daily.
Xu drove to Liu’s house and yelled at her to come out, after which he drove to a gas station and bought 550ml of gasoline which he put in a drinking bottle, police said in the report.
Liu thought Xu was gone and went downstairs, where he surprised her. Xu poured the gas on her and dragged her into the car, where they had a quarrel, police said.
Xu ignited the gas with a lighter, which caused serious burns to 30 percent of the victim’s body.
Xu is now being detained for intentional injury of the girl.
