More than tens of thousands of gay rights supporters participated in the 11th LGBT Pride Parade in Taipei to end discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community on Saturday.
Participants wore colorful costumes and carried banners using six different colors that represent various human rights, including the right not to be bullied and the right to have diverse partnerships legalized.
“Ten years ago what we asked for was simply to be acknowledged, now we want to challenge the authority for real rights,” said Hu Hsiang, a college student who has participated in the event four times now.
The organizers hope that the parade encourages the public to revisit the issue more seriously by raising awareness, calling for collaboration and mutual support among people in the community.
