China is no stranger to volatile yogurt scandals but none compare to the recent case of a Wahaha yogurt drink that exploded in a Nanchang man’s face, shooting yogurt into his eye and injuring him, 9News reports:
The 58-year-old man, from Nanchang, in China’s Jiangxi Province, had just returned from work on October 19 when he decided to have the fruit yoghurt drink, ET Today reports.
He told local media he heard a hissing sound while unscrewing the cap, like one would opening a carbonated drink, so went outside. As he did the bottle exploded, shooting yogurt into his right eye.
The man was rushed to hospital where doctors found the force of the yogurt blast had caused internal bleeding on his face.He also suffered serious ocular congestion and doctors fear he may lose part of his vision.
The man told reporters the blast was “like a grenade” and left him unable to hear or see anything afterwards.
Wahaha Nutritional Express sent him the totally appropriate, not at all in poor-taste gift of 10 boxes of the same yogurt drink as compensation. He unsurprisingly turned it down.
It seems Wahaha yogurt is made by the same guy who manufactures fake cell phone batteries.
