Tired of waiting in line to see an IMAX movie? In a fifty-fifty agreement with TLC Multimedia Technology Holdings, IMAX will begin to offer their famous movie watching experience in the comfort of your own home. The target audience is wealthy homeowners in Hong Kong, Russia, and the Middle East, but IMAX Chief Executive Richard Gelfond said in an in an article on Reuters that their main focus is China.
The production for these babies will kick off in 2015, and for around 1.5 million yuan it can be yours. IMAX already earns 16 percent of their revenue from the Chinese market with 131 screens, and betting on China’s appetite for luxury goods, in-home IMAX doesn’t seem so far fetched. And really, who really wants to leave home to watch a movie anymore?
“China is now our second largest market in the world, and our fastest growing market.” Gelfond said. “We spend a lot of time concentrating on the Chinese market.”
Looks like we now know what China’s 168 billionaires were doing with all that money.
