This 85 year old Zhengguang He building was designed by British Architect George Wilson. Due to a “facelift” of the neighborhood, however, the building is to be moved 38.5 meters, to the end of the block. It was originally a warehouse for a soda factory, but was named a valuable historical building in 1999.
In similar moves, the Shanghai Concert Hall was shifted 66.4 meters to make way for the construction of a metro line in 2003, and another old building on Weihai Road was moved 57 meters for a commercial development in 2010.
Watch and learn how workers manage to move a building of over 12,000 tons all in the name of a good facelift.
