Thousands of Chinese mainland students have been flying to Hong Kong for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (the SAT), the main admission test requirement for admission in American universities. As SAT is only available in international schools in China, many mainland students need to travel to Hong Kong to get a shot at the test.
The examination is held at AsiaWorld-Expo in HongKong roughly every month; the expo seats 10,000 students, 90% of whom are typically from the mainland. SAT exam preparation in China is a billion yuan market, with some students spending more than 100,000 yuan on prep classes.
After all, some people already have their American dream mapped out, like that mother who bought a $6.5million Manhattan home for her 2 year old child.
