A man in Shanghai was detained by police after being accused of severely hurting an officer by dragging him 20 meters across the road in a terrible getaway attempt, all so he could avoid a traffic ticket, according to local reports.
Shanghai Daily reports that surveillance footage showed the man named Lin Bin, 27, encroaching into an intersection in his red Audi A5 sedan at Chengdu Road and Weihai Road when the light was red, causing a traffic jam.
When an officer approached him and asked to see his driver’s license, the man panicked, and as the light turned green, he accelerated while the officer’s hand was caught in his car.
The officer fell down and was dragged along with the car for more than 20 meters, according to the report, leaving him with serious injuries including a fractured hand.
Lin told police that he regretted breaking traffic rules and hurting the officer in his attempt to avoid a fine.
Apparently some drivers will go to great lengths to avoid traffic fees, like one innovative Anhui truck driver who earlier this year painted his truck in camouflage to pass as a military vehicle and avoid pay tolls.
