The baby who made headlines after being found alive in an Anhui funeral home before he was set to be cremated has now died in an Anhui hospital due to various internal injuries, Shanghai Daily reports.
The boy died after suffering internal bleeding and multiple organ failure on Friday, the Anhui Provincial Children’s Hospital reported.
The baby was originally hospitalized on October 28 and diagnosed with pneumonia and brain injuries. His parents were told that because of his deteriorating condition, the child was likely to die, and they reportedly signed a document to stop treatment and leave him at the hospital.
On Monday, the child’s condition worsened, and he was declared dead by a doctor surnamed Zha, who issued the baby’s death certificate.
Two days later, staff at the Hefei Municipal Funeral Parlor were shocked to find the baby alive and crying during a routine check before he was set to be cremated.
Shanghai Daily reports that Zha’s license has been revoked and hospital executives involved in the case are also under investigation.
Health officials said Zha’s misdiagnosis was to be blame for the incident and criticized the way the neonatology department was managed. The provincial health department said the case was one of “serious misdiagnosis.”
