CCTV has captured some terrifying footage of a woman on an electric bike in Ningbo City getting run over by a car and trapped beneath the vehicle. Although rush-hour traffic carries on as normal around her, 10 people rushed to the scene to lift the car and save the screaming woman, who was later taken to the hospital.
People in China have in the past been criticized by the media for tendencies to turn a blind-eye to those in need, especially after the infamous and incredibly sad case of a toddler named Yueyue who was struck by two trucks and ignored by several passersby before eventually succumbing to her injuries at a hospital in Guangzhou.
However, instances like these remind us that good samaritans are still abundant, despite the fact that the media will more likely cast light on cases where onlookers stare or take photos when someone is in despair.
The woman, badly injured in her hospital bed, reached out to thank those who helped her. “More than 10 kind-hearted people moved me out of the car bottom and then I just sat there,” she said.
“I really appreciate them for saving me.”
