The following is a message from our sponsor, Paulaner Bräuhaus.
Are you ready for mulled wine, handcrafted gifts, delicacies and a lot of Christmas spirit? Paulaner are hosting the 7th traditional German Christmas market in their garden on Fenyang Road this weekend!
The Christkindlmarkt – a Christmas Market – has been a central part of Germany’s Christmas culture since the Middle Ages, when so-called “Nicholas Markets” were held in city centers to signal the start of Advent. Today, the markets play host to decorative huts selling holiday ornaments and gifts, as well as wintry foods and beverages. The markets bring community members together with their jovial and festive atmospheres, with market goers attending well into each evening. Now, there are many Christmas Markets all throughout Germany and other European countries, each bringing its own unique regional charm to each community’s bazaar.
What you can expect
Over the past six years, the Paulaner Christkindlmarkt has become a well known seasonal celebration and symbol of the start of Christmas in Shanghai, when the garden of Paulaner on Fen Yang Road is transformed into a merry winter wonderland.
You’ll be treated to the tastes and smells of an Old World Christmas with hot spiced glühwein (mulled wine), sizzling Bavarian sausages, pastries and other seasonal specialties sold at various food and beverage huts throughout the market. Besides delicious and comforting edible treats, vendors sell many different goods, including traditional Christmas presents and wreaths, cards, and special artisanal items as well as small accessories and ornaments from decorated booths.
