A newborn baby who was found naked and abandoned inside of a garbage station in Beijing died yesterday morning before paramedics could arrive to help, Shanghai Daily reports.
The boy was discovered around 7 am by a local resident, still moving and struggling in a pile of garbage in Beijing’s Tongzhou District. He had been exposed to predawn temperatures only slightly above 0 degrees celsius, according to the report.
Surveillance video showed the baby was dumped about 5am, police said, but the dim light kept them from getting a good look at the person’s face. They are investigating.
“At first, I thought it was a doll, which looked pink all over its body,” the person who found the baby, surnamed Sun, told the newspaper. Then she realized it was a baby, the report said.
She said the baby started kicking his legs.
A photo of the baby revealed bruises on his head, blood coming from his mouth and an umbilical cord still attached to his abdomen.
Last month we reported that authorities announced the construction of a ‘baby abandonment’ center run by the Nanjing Welfare Home in Eastern China, where mothers could give up their babies anonymously to curb baby dumping in the area.
According to the report, Nanjing Welfare Home has taken in over 160 abandoned babies this year alone.
