At least fifteen people were killed, and five injured, when a large fire broke out at a wholesale produce market in Shenzhen. It took 145 firefighters about 2 hours to put out the blaze, which started at 1 am and ultimately engulfed an area of 1,000 square meters.
Nobody knows what the hell is going on, and according to the Associated Press:
The cause of the fire was [and still is] unclear.
Authorities at the city government, emergency management office, fire department and local Communist Party offices did not immediately answer phone calls or declined to give any information.
This event seems to be smaller, but more deadly, than a similar fire in Shenzhen last month. Why more than twenty people were at a produce market at 1 am on a Wednesday morning has also yet to be explained.
