The problem with owning a Lamborghini (any other luxury car), is that you can’t flaunt your wealth when you’re not driving the vehicle. Luckily, Tonino Lamborghini, the son of the man who started Automobili Lamborghini, has launched the Antares phone – a luxury smartphone which aims to compete with the likes of smartphone giants like Apple and Samsung.
This isn’t his namesake company’s first business endeavor in China. The company already owns a chain of luxury boutique hotels under the same name, and the Antares phone launch proves that it has other China-related business ventures up its sleeves.
At more than 20,000 RMB, the Antares phone boasts the same steep price as the iPhone 5s and is available in several flashy colors, including *wait for it* GOLD! But here’s where the similarities with Apple and Samsung end. Tonino CEO Gianluca Filippi claims that the Antares is “designed to match instantly recognizable Italian flair with great performance and stunning materials”, yet early reviewers of this phone have complained about its blah technology and poor resolution, even though it runs on a visually-reconfigured Android system. The Antares phone is due to be released this month
to obnoxious, nouveau riche consumers in Russia and China, followed by a Spring 2014 release in the US and UK.
