About the program
The Master of Journalism (MJ) attracts talented students from all over the world, and is taught by a faculty of experienced journalists and media scholars. HKU accepts between 60 and 70 students a year from a variety of countries and professional backgrounds, and in nine months of full time study teaches the tools, skills and values that a journalist in the digital age requires. Many students have come from other professions and have taken this course to embark on new careers as journalists.
HKU’s teaching philosophy
The program aims to prepare students to practice truthful, honest, high quality journalism in a media environment that is being transformed by the digital revolution. Students master the traditional journalistic values of reporting verified facts and are trained to use new technology and tools.
In addition to technology and tools HKU believes that a journalist requires knowledge in specific subject areas and offer specializations in business and finance journalism, reporting China and health, science and environment journalism.
