This is such a shame. Local artists were saddened yesterday to see that the demolition of Putuo district’s Moganshan Road graffiti wall, Shanghai’s biggest graffiti wall, has gone underway.
Pictures of the partially demolished wall immediately surfaced online and caused a stir among artists and netizens who are predicting that it will all be knocked down within a week’s time, Shanghai Daily reports.
Shanghai Kixuanmen Corporate Development said in a news report from earlier this year that the entire wall “including the M50 creative district” would be torn down starting at the end of 2013 to make room for the construction of a business district.
“I’m sad that it’s finally gone because we all had a great time there and it became a unique site of the city,” a local graffiti artist was quoted as saying.
The 600-meter wall still partially stands on Moganshan Road, between Changhua Road and Suzhouhe Road.
