On the morning of November 26, a villager ran into a young boy walking by himself around a small town in Yunnan province. When asked why he was walking in the cold, he discovered that the boy, whose family was too poor to buy an alarm clock, had walked in the middle of the night to get to school, fearing that he would be late the next morning.
ChinaSMACK reports that the boy was taken to a police station with a civil police officer, where he told the man that his mother had abandoned their family years ago, and that he and his father and sister had little to survive on.
The boy said that on the night of November 25, when his dad had left for his night shift, the boy began to fear that he would oversleep the next day and arrive late to school, as his family couldn’t afford to buy an alarm clock. He packed up his books and began the 3-4 kilometer trek to school
Upon hearing the news, the police officer called the boy’s father, who quickly hurried home, according to the report. When the officer saw the family’s living situation he was immediately filled with concern and wanted to help the boy:
The next day, the civil police officer got off work and instead of resting, he brought a little alarm clock he had chosen with the utmost care and some school stationary supplies to visit little Xing Yu, who happily received the alarm clock from the civil police officer’s hands. “With this, I won’t have to worry about being late to school anymore…”, little Xing Yu said, choking with emotion, his eyes shining bright with tears.
