For those afraid of being laid to rest for eternity with a mangled hangnail, Shanghai Baoxing Funeral Parlor offers a ‘departed’ service that includes a bath for the corpse, dressing and spa treatment for the body that even includes a manicure.
Inspired by the Academy award-winning Japanese film, Okuribito, professional morticians at Baoxing have started offering a service to clean the bodies, wash the hair, dress them up, apply makeup, give them manicures and clean wounds, according to Shanghai Daily.
Prices range from 800-2,500 yuan depending on the service, types of lotions and products used and time spent.
The eight-member team — four men and four women — are all below 30 years of age. The service was first started in October after the team received professional training from their Japanese counterparts, mostly about etiquette during the procedure of the bath service.
“It’s a job I like, to see a person off in such a meaningful way. I’m glad I can comfort those who have lost their beloved,” one of the technicians told reporters.
