Police detained a 34-year-old woman in Loudi city, Hunan province after she allegedly injected rat poison into containers of yogurt then delivered them to children outside of a local primary school.
Nineteen students were hospitalized on Wednesday after drinking the yogurt that was handed out to them on their way home from school, according to police.
Of the 19 sick students, three are in critical condition, but doctors say they aren’t facing life-threatening situations.
Oddly enough, a similar incident occurred earlier this year in Hebei when two nursery school students died after drinking yogurt that was tainted with rat poison. Reports say that the head of a rival school had laced the yogurt with poison in hopes to damage the school’s reputation.
Police suspect that the 34-year-old Hunan woman suffered from mental disorder.
It’s been a dangerous, dangerous year for yogurt.
