Uh oh. The health and family planning commission of Shanghai on January 1 confirmed one case of human infection with H7N9 avian influenza.
According to reports, the patient is a local 86-year-old male surnamed Zhou who is now being hospitalized in the city. The source of his infection is still unknown.
At the end of December, an 80-year-old man who was confirmed as being infected by the H7N9 bird flu virus died in Hong Kong, making it the first bird flu-related death in the city. He was believed to have come into contact with a wet market in Shenzhen that tested positive for the deadly virus.
Experts predicted that the virus would continue to spread in Guangdong and surrounding areas.
