CCTV-4 in its new documentary ‘Blue Frontiers Guard’ has revealed footage of a confrontation between a Chinese coast guard vessel and Vietnamese ships in the South China Sea from 2007. The intense surveillance footage shows Vietnamese vessels closing in on the Chinese marine research ship, at which point the Coast Guard rams into a Vietnamese vessel under orders.
“To tell you the truth, as commanders, we felt stressed to give this order, as we often taught our crew to act safe and to adopt security measures, trying to avoid collisions,” one of the commanding officers said. “But then, we asked them to hit other vessels. Glorious as the end was, the action itself posed a certain threat to their safety.”
China’s patrol team in the South China Sea continues to fight for its rights in the waters. During the “Huangyan Island Incident” that occurred in 2012, the Chinese patrol defended China’s maritime rights and interests with fast attack.
